Save my placeEverything you need to know about specialising in S&C: what it covers, who it suits, how long it takes and where it leads. Honest answers, no pressure.
PureGym, Virgin Active, David Lloyd and Anytime Fitness all recognise and actively hire Create graduates.
A strength and conditioning coach trains people to perform. That means building power, speed, movement quality and resilience, and programming it across weeks and seasons, not just single sessions.
S&C is usually a specialism you add once you are already qualified and working. Most coaches come to it from personal training, sports coaching or a related background.
This guide covers what the work involves, what you need to get into it, what performance settings look for, and where an S&C career can lead.
There’s a clear path in, and it maps to the same journey every Create learner follows. Most people move through four stages.
S&C is a specialism, so most coaches qualify in stages. You will usually need a Level 3 foundation first, then a dedicated strength and conditioning qualification.
A Level 3 Personal Trainer Diploma, or an equivalent coaching background, gives you the anatomy, programming and client skills that S&C is built on.
Beyond the qualification, the coaches who get hired and trusted in performance settings tend to share the same things.
You can run a room, hold standards and get buy-in from athletes. Technical knowledge means little if you cannot coach it.
You can explain why every block is there, and adjust it when the plan meets real life.
You know the demands of the sport or goal you are coaching for, and you train people towards them.
Looking at qualifications? Our Level 3 Diploma includes both Level 2 and Level 3 in one programme.
Earnings vary a lot with setting and experience. The route you choose changes the picture.

Most learners complete it in 8-12 weeks studying part-time, but it’s self-paced with no fixed deadlines, so you can go faster or slower to fit around work and life. As standard you get 12 months to complete your course, with lifetime access to the course material.
We no longer offer the Level 2 Gym Instructor course on it’s own, just as part of the Level 2 + 3 combined pathway. It’s CIMSPA recognised and awarded by Focus Awards – an approved, Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation, so it’s accepted by gyms and employers across the UK and worldwide.
The reality is, these days very few gyms will employ Level 2 Gym Instructors. Instead, the duties a gym instructor would previously have done are now done by Level 3 Personal Trainers instead, who can also train clients 1-2-1. For this reason (among others) we no longer offer a standalone Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, instead we offer a combined Level 2 + 3 PT qualification.
Yes. Level 2 Gym Instructor is the foundation that Level 3 Personal Training builds on, so it’s a required step to becoming a PT. Most learners complete both together in one programme, which is faster and more cost-effective than taking them separately.
No. Level 2 qualifies you to work as a gym instructor; you need a Level 3 Personal Training qualification to work as a PT (designing programmes and training clients one-to-one). Most people progress straight from Level 2 to Level 3 — often taking them together to become career-ready sooner.
For most people, yes. Taking Level 2 and Level 3 together is faster and more cost-effective than doing them separately, and it gets you career-ready as a personal trainer sooner because the content flows straight through. At Create, we now only offer the combined Level 2 + 3 as one seamless course for these reasons.
It’s the qualification required to work as a personal trainer. Ours goes further than a tick-box course — it prepares you to apply your knowledge in real situations and to build a career you can grow over time.

Yes. This course builds on existing fitness knowledge and focuses on the business of online coaching rather than coaching fundamentals, so you should already be a qualified personal trainer (Level 3). If you’re not yet qualified, the PT Diploma with Online Coaching combines both.

Yes. If you already have clients, the Accelerator helps you refine your approach, tighten your systems and build a more consistent way of generating and retaining clients — so it’s about scaling and stabilising an existing business, not just starting one.

No course can guarantee results, and we’re honest about that. The Accelerator gives you the structure, tools and thinking that work — but the results come from applying them consistently. Trainers who do the work typically see clearer positioning, more enquiries and better client retention.
Yes. The course builds genuine confidence and real-world capability — not just exam readiness — so you can start working with clients as soon as you qualify.
You get two things in one: the full Level 2+3 Personal Training Diploma plus a complete online coaching business course. This includes topics such as client acquisition, pricing, delivery tools — and comprehensive support throughout.
You’ll get fast, human support throughout — most queries answered the same day and always within 24 hours — plus personalised video feedback from your tutor on assessments within 3 working days (the fastest in the industry). Support is a big part of what sets the course apart.
It’s built around preparing you for real work, not just passing assessments — you learn before you’re assessed and build skills through real scenarios. The course goes well beyond what is required as the industry standard, with employers recognising Create graduates as a higher standard than other training providers.
You can work as a personal trainer (in a gym or self-employed), build an online coaching business, or combine both into a hybrid model. The diploma is designed to give you the qualification and the business skills to do any of these, and the online coach course builds on this with online specific skills.
Yes. The diploma is built to get you client-ready: you’ll leave with the structure, systems and approach needed to launch and run an online coaching business, including how to package and price your services, the systems to grow your business, how to generate leads and convert them to paying customers, and much more. As with any business, your results depend on how consistently you apply what you learn.
