Answer seven quick questions about the path you are weighing up: the discipline, how you want to work, where you are based, how much of your week it will take, the specialisms you want to build, the ways you want to earn beyond one to one, and how far you want to take it.

Add your name and email at the end to see your range and the guide for the courses that match the path you have described.

Where you start

These are figures for someone established, not newly qualified. Your first year or two will sit below the range while you build.

The work behind it

The higher figures assume a full week, specialisms and extra income streams, all of which take time to build.

Your local market

Local demand, competition and the clients you attract all move the real number. The range is a guide, not a guarantee.

It is an estimate

We scale typical UK earnings by the choices you make. The base figures are illustrative until confirmed, so treat the result as a direction, not a promise.

What decides how much you can earn in fitness

The honest answer to how much you can earn as a trainer is: it depends, and it depends on things you control more than things you do not. The industry average gets quoted a lot and is close to useless, because it flattens a huge range into one misleading number.

Five choices move the number most. How you work, employed or your own business. Where you are. How much of your week you give it. The depth you build, since specialists can charge more. And how you earn beyond one to one, through group sessions, online coaching and workshops that are not capped by the hours in your day.

That last point is the one that changes careers. A trainer who only sells their own time hits a hard ceiling. A trainer who adds group work, an online offer or a small team breaks through it. None of it happens on day one, so treat the range as a map of where the path can lead, not a promise.

Look at what pushed your range up. It is usually the specialisms and the extra income streams, not the region or the job title, so those are the things worth building on purpose. Pick the one specialism that fits the clients you want and the one extra income stream you would enjoy running, and start there.

Are these figures guaranteed?

No. They are an illustration of what a career path can reach once established, scaled from typical UK earnings. Your real earnings depend on your market, your effort and your choices.

Do these figures apply to my first year?

No. They are for someone established. Expect to sit below the range while you build your diary, your specialisms and your extra income.

What raises the ceiling most?

Specialisms and income beyond one to one work, such as group sessions and online coaching. They matter more than job title or region.
