Save my placeLearn how to design and adapt exercise programmes that support older adults safely and effectively.

Training older adults requires a different level of awareness. Not less intensity, but more intention. This course is designed to help you understand how ageing affects the body and how that should shape your approach as a coach. You will build a clear understanding of the physical, physiological and bio-mechanical changes that come with age, and what that means in a training environment. From there, the focus moves to application. How to communicate effectively. How to assess needs and set appropriate goals. How to design and adapt programmes that reflect the individual, not just their age. You will also learn how to work around common medical conditions, manage risk and create sessions that feel both safe and purposeful. By the end of the course, you will be able to coach older adults with more confidence, delivering sessions that support long-term health, movement and independence. This is about helping people stay capable, not just active. Accreditation: Industry-recognised CPD.
Ageing changes what a body can do and what it needs, and almost nothing on a Level 3 covers it. Meanwhile it is the fastest growing group of people who want to train.
How ageing affects the body physically and physiologically and how to assess needs and adapt programmes for older adults.
This is a CPD course rather than a regulated qualification. It is not awarded by an awarding organisation and it does not sit on the Ofqual framework. What it does is give you something specific you can use with clients on Monday, and a Create certificate that records it.
You will receive a CPD certificate in Training Older Adults, recognising your ability to design and adapt programmes for this client group.
Suitable for qualified fitness professionals, personal trainers or coaches working with a range of client groups.

You’ll learn how ageing affects the body — the physiological and biomechanical changes — and how these impact physical activity, so you can design safe, effective programmes for older adults.
It’s for fitness professionals who want to confidently and safely train older adults — for example PTs and gym instructors looking to work with an ageing, growing client base.
Yes. A key focus is designing and adapting programmes around each older adult’s individual needs, goals and limitations — including progressions/regressions and managing common age-related considerations.
Older clients stay longer, recommend more, and are the least fought over part of the industry.
